For the best and healthiest meat dishes, it’s best that the livestock is treated humanely, says Dr Victor Yamo who is the humane and sustainable agriculture campaign manager at World Animal Protection, the organization dedicated to end animal cruelty around the world.
On the recent World Food Safety Day, Dr Yamo, a veterinary surgeon talked about the correlation between animal welfare and food safety. For the last 25 years, he has worked in the African poultry industry. So the man knows his meat.
His focus over the last few years has been to work with African governments to develop animal welfare policies and strategies including strengthening legislation. “At the same time, it’s also important for people to make the connection between the food they eat and the welfare of the animals.
