Where to find them plus the projects in place to save them.
1. Taita Apalis
Kenya’s most threatened bird.
Until a century ago this tiny songbird was found in the magical mist forests of the Taita Hills that are part of the Eastern Arc Mountains and a global biodiversity hotspot. Today, fewer than 200 remain with populations decreasing for a number of reasons.
The Taita Apalis is a forest bird. Having said that, its habitat is actually the clearing within the forest dappled with sunlight when an old forest tree falls naturally and opens a patch in the forest. The bird settles in the shrubs around the clearing.
